I just recently went through my pack and Purged a lot of the stuff that I didn't I don't ever use you know you go months And months and months of carrying around A bunch of crap in your pack which you Never really use it so do you really Need it in there This is the EXO Mountain gear 4800 EXO EXO I'm not sure exactly how to say it I'm not your gear specs guy but I have Used the pack and I like the pack I've Done quite a bit of hiking with it I've I've loaded it up with uh 60 plus pounds Of gear in here and and carried it no Problem kind of internal frame system That works good in this butt pad here or This hip pad here Um rides really well and it gives you Some space gives you a little bit of Space between your back and the pack so You can ventilate a little bit and not Get so sweaty it's really comfortable Padded straps and I I just I just really Like it you can cinch this thing down Tight and make it turn it into a fairly Small package but if you need the extra Cargo space this thing will unroll and You can open it up and it expands to get Really really big and you could fit a Whole bunch of poofy sleeping bags and That kind of stuff in there so what I've Got in here is my gloves Start with that some work gloves which I Have used quite a few times it's just
Nice especially in the winter time when It gets cold outside to have uh just a Just a layer of leather on your hands so You're not touching icy cold stuff I Just keep my tent Stakes which I have Used quite a bit it's just not these Just work better than any of the steaks That you're going to make what's Prompted me to really go through my pack Right now is because in the near future In the next Wasn't going to be two three weeks away We're gonna go do a campout which is 15 20 miles away from here and after the Campout I'm gonna walk home That in mind if you have that mission in Your mind of let's say this is your get Home bag or your I don't know whatever You want to call it your your bug out Bag get home bag if you really feel like You're going to have to cover some miles And it's purpose built for that is to Get you from A to B and just uh feed you Clothe you protect you from the elements And do all the things that that you need It to do Uh can it do that are you gonna be able To carry it without too much discomfort Or are you going to be immediately Ditching a bunch of crap off of their Bag I think what I'll do is I'll have Two piles up maybe three piles I'll have A a nope pile I'll have a maybe pile and I'll have a definitely pile these gloves
I think are gonna go in the maybe pile Right there 10 Stakes we're gonna go ahead and put Those in the yes pile I've got a whole Bunch of cordage I haven't used any of this stuff Honestly I only use a couple pieces In my opinion it's better to have a Whole bunch of small sections like this Than just one great big thing Okay so here what I have Is three items all right Item number one is just a aluminum Container of alcohol this very Lightweight titanium stove from a Company called totes was given me given To me by a a viewer a subscriber named Barnacle Bill thanks again bill I really Appreciate that I've really enjoyed this Little stove and then inside of here is A titanium Hexagonal wood stove from a company Called Vargo The stove would go in here like that and Then I could sit my let's say this is my Pot I'd sit my pot on top and I could Cook away I don't use an alcohol stove Um on the regular when I go camping or Hiking or hunting or whatever it is I Just I like to build fires and I cook Over the Open Fire now let's say you Know I'm a long ways from home and the EMP strikes and I anticipate people Freaking out and I need to keep a much
Lower profile I will keep this in my truck and then I Could potentially just throw this in my Pack but I do I need to carry this in my Pack all the time for all my excursions I think not in this big flap here open It up and unzip this side here I keep Some navigation stuff some really basic Backup navigation stuff I've got a pen Panda right with I've got a compass I've Got a small notepad and then I've got a Map of my area The pen and notepad I could maybe do Without you know I don't I don't need That the map Encompass is something that I just feel like is so valuable that It's gonna stay uh here's a couple of Garbage bags A couple of 42 gallon drum liners the Heavy duty three mil I think they are Drum liners these are really really Useful for lots of things I definitely Want food food's important so I will Probably put this in the yes pile and I Need to restock I need to have a couple More at least probably at least three of These meals in my pack This is a 10 by 10 tarp is this Something that I use personally no it's Not I I don't set up a big large tarp That much it's really nice when the Weather's bad to have a big canopy Overhead to keep you out of the elements But
It's just honest I just almost never use This this is a bag of clothes and if I Was to get soaking wet from for some Reason whatever it is from sweat from Rain from falling in the creek whatever It is man would it be nice to have some Dry clothes to put on Here's a big cotton cloth I've actually Upgraded from this one I've got a better One that my buddy Phil has sent me from Primitive Wilderness survival Here's a lightweight down jacket very Lightweight I'll probably keep that in There because that's really nice We've got socks a wool knit cap and then We've got top and bottom long johns man That is nice when you do get wet Even in the summertime really to be Honest with you in the summertime Because it's you're sweaty and nasty It's really nice to take off that sweaty Nasty jungle stuff and and put on some Uh some clean dry a clean dry layer even If I'm if it's hot even if it's 85 Degrees at night you know Taking off all that wet swampy crap Putting on these dry long johns and then Just laying in your hammock with nothing That's pretty nice I've got an extra T-shirt and I've got an extra pair of Pants I think these are not going to go In there I can always patch up repair my Pants and clothing Um
I just don't think I need to carry this Extra pound or two probably maybe two Pounds these pants are pretty heavy These are waxed canvas pants basically This is a Gore-Tex military bivvy bag I love it I absolutely love it Come on come on come on come on kill me While I love this baby bag I really do Enjoy getting inside of it because you Just feel like nothing's gonna phase you You know once you're once you're in your Sleeping bag and inside of this this Baby bag who cares what happens you know Just let it let it come down this thing Is a big chunk of real estate and it is Not very light I mean it's not crazy Heavy but it takes up so much space in Your pack what I have done is I've I Have upgraded I hope while I'm not sure About that yet but I think I've upgraded To an Sol breathable bivvy probably not Much bigger than this alcohol uh bottle Once it's packed up tight if you could Carry all the stuff you want to be cozy And dry and warm and snug and and be as Comfortable as possible at camp but You're gonna suffer when you have to Carry all that stuff So choose how much you want to where do You want to suffer basically do you want To suffer on the way there or the way Out or do you want to suffer while You're there which one do you want I Don't want to suffer in either place but
You have to make compromises to make That happen so we've got our our yes Pile it's definitely keeping this stuff In there we've got our maybe pile or Some of it's going to go in the truck And we've got our no pile a replacement Pile so this is going to go in the no That might stay in the truck a big tarp I tell you what if you're planning on Keeping warm by a fire if that's what You're you know maybe that's your plan Is to not carry a whole bunch of layers And sleeping bags and all that stuff and You want to travel light But you want to keep a fire going all Night stay warm to sleep by Ain't nothing gonna be better for Getting firewood than this right here I've used axes I've used different kinds Of saws Buck saws All kinds of different things uh Machetes whatever nothing gets firewood Faster more effectively safer than this Thing right here Oh man good old bag of pistachios I Forgot about that that's gonna stay in There for sure in this back sleeve here Where like a water bladder would Typically go that's where I keep my Poncho folded up nice and small and Compact You know Betty Poncho was one of my Favorite pieces of Kit they're very Versatile and this is not something I'm
Willing to give up that is going in the Yes pile faux show also in here I have a Small first aid kit Now again while I have not had to dip Into this first aid kit it's not Something I'm willing to give up we Definitely need to have some first aid Supplies on us because you don't need it Till you need it but when you need it You really need it SWAT team I do not like these tourniquets and plus I always keep a tourniquet on in my Pocket uh I'd say probably toss this and Replace it with some more useful stuff Since I have a tourniquet in my pocket Anyway Forgot to mention as you go through your Pack and you start to make decisions on What you need you don't need changes you Want to make just start making yourself Some notes so I just realized I want to Add some Band-Aids That looks terrible I'm looking through The camera as I'm trying to write But I think I could read that Band-Aids I want to add those to my first aid kit Wet wipes these are pretty dang nice I Tell you what when you are filthy grimy Disgusting and dirty And maybe you're not near a water source Or perhaps it's winter time and it's Freezing cold outside and it's just Really unpleasant to take a bath Wet wipes something I feel that
Absolutely has to go in the pack is this Multi-tool here this is one of my Favorites it's uh made out of a titanium Quadra alloy and a very lightweight Razor sharp I have failed trees uh you Know six seven feet in diameter with This thing before no problem very good For bludgeoning zombies in their heads Uh I can disassemble an entire vehicle With just this one multi-tool right here So pretty handy must go in the kit or I Bring this ax here This thing is dangerous on every end Doesn't matter where you hold it I feel Like it's going to hurt me I did a lot when you're in the field for Multiple days because it's just Difficult to do and you know you're just Out dirty and you're tired you don't Feel like it and you just get lazy and Complacent but what happens is if you Neglect the hygiene things can go south Really really fast if you don't take Care of your feet keep them keep them Clean and dry athlete's foot Um trench foot stuff like that can set In really really fast and cause nasty Blistered infections and things and if You are if you let it go too far if your Feet aren't working if you let it go too Far then suddenly you're basically Immobile and you're stuck wherever you Are so hygiene is really really Important and plus just for morale if
You just one of those wet wipes if you Take one wet wipe and you've been Working hard all day long doing whatever It is you've been doing surviving clean Yourself up with one of those just Wiping your face and clean yourself up a Little bit like that it makes you feel Human again it makes you feel alive Again and it's just big morale boost This is inflatable insulated sleep pad From Big Agnes and I tell you what I Really really like this and I enjoy Sleeping on it very very much I do not Trust them 100 though it's inflatable Right You could very likely wake up in the Middle of the night laying on the cold Hard ground I've used it a lot of times I've slept on this probably Man I don't even know how many nights I've spent on this a lot uh I'd say 50 Nights Maybe I don't know somewhere in there maybe a Little more 50 nights I've slept on this And never had an issue I'm debating they Weigh about the same You know give or take way about the same This um egg carton accordion style Therm-a-Rest Uh z-rest I think it might be called Actually from thermarest that I've Actually cut down it's not as big It's not as big as what it used to be it Only goes from about my head to my knee
And that's really all you need for a Sleep Pad so because these are the only Downside of these is they're so big and Bulky to carry them and you've got to Strap them to the outside of your pack Basically so man I'm gonna have to think On this one for a little bit to decide Which one I'd want to keep in my pack I I'm leaning towards this I'll think About it what do you think tell me that In the comments Another big advantage of the inflatable Is just how small it packs up I mean That's You know that's a pretty small Lightweight package right there It's rated to I believe 15 degrees I don't keep it in this normally because Again I don't want to keep down Compressed for too long of a period of Time because it will stay compressed After you let it out and then it uh it Won't insulate you as well you want it To be as poofy and fluffy as you could Possibly get it the down inside of it's Actually been treated with some sort of Proprietary process and it sheds water It repels water it's pretty amazing it Doesn't soak it up like a typical down Sleeping bag would Probably keep that in there because I Like to stay cozy and warm one really Cool advantage of this and the way that I typically do it is this is basically a
Dry bag I mean it's it's going to be It's airtight pretty much because that's How you inflate it so it's basically a Dry bag you can put your sleeping bag Like so Roll up the top And jam that in your bag as is and this Will keep your sleeping bag dry even if It should start to rain Pretty rough life these animals around Here have I mean there's one school of thought out There that says you know you should you Should never touch your survival kit you Should never get in there because you Want to make sure that all of the Elements of it are in place and if You're constantly going in there you're Going to misplace some things yeah yeah I get that you know that's I guess That's one way of thinking about it but I I firmly believe and I highly Encourage all of you to use your gear Use your equipment so you know what Works and what doesn't work you don't Want the first time that you you use Your survival kit Uh to be in a survival situation that Would be a really terrible idea you're Not going to die because you forgot the Thing the one thing the furthest I've Ever gone on foot was 28 miles I ran 28 Miles in one go and it was absolutely Miserable and all it took was basically
That right there I think it I think it Actually was this that I took Um but it was absolutely miserable I Ended up getting a stress fracture in my Foot from the abuse this time I'm just Gonna walk it I'm not going to try to Run it and I but in this time I have to Spend the night so it changes things Just a little bit and I could probably I Could probably sleep by the fire with Just to close my back and take nothing And but I would be pretty miserable and Get a pretty horrible night's sleep so I'm trying to mitigate the discomfort at Least to some degree I'm considering Packing only homemade freeze-dried foods For the trip this is some freeze-dried Pumpkin pie I'm telling you man This Is amazing it weighs nothing But it's like a it's like a really big Graham cracker is kind of what it tastes Like and kind of the texture and Consistency so I might be packing some Pretty good treats for the trip we shall See about that one one of the things That's going to be in my pack is this uh Metal Cup right here the Stanley cook Pot and a Grail water filter such as This one I have two of them I have a small one and I have the big One the question is should which one Should I bring this is significantly
Lighter than this one right here this is 24 ounces of water this is 16 ounces of Water I could bring one of these One of these bottles and Extra metal Containers not a bad idea I think Possibly the best compromise is bringing The smaller filter lighter And the bigger metal water bottle there That might be the combination Something else is good for this is you Can put hot water in here sit this next To the campfire with the top off And let the water get really good and Warm and throw that at the feet of your Sleeping bag before you go to bed and That'll keep your feet nice and toasty For quite a while here's some smaller Ones these are six hours each all right Inside my metal cook pot here we got to Go through some things I have a small little thing of tender Which is nice And then I've got this mesh bag here Let's go through here and decide what we Want what we don't want we've got A fishing kit a very small compact Fishing kit do I foresee needing this This is something that I might keep in The truck and if I was really really far From home and foresaw my Food Supplies Running out and needed to replenish in Some way I might bring along something Like that but you know it's not that
Heavy it's pretty light I could bring it Then again not that big a deal and I Also have a fishing kit in my belt right Now so this would be a redundancy that I Do not need that is going out Duct tape I am definitely going to bring Duct tape because if you get a blister On the back of your heel toes whatever It is start rubbing Strip batteries for my flashlight I'll Probably keep those in there little fire Plugs these are my favorite ones from Wazoo survival so I'll keep those Spoon for eating stirring up my coffee Whatever it is and then I've got some Instant coffee here which will be nice In the morning before you take off They're lighter Always Always remove the Child Safety nonsense From your Bic lighters get rid of that Thing Get it out of your life We always put safety third at best and a Knife sharpener you know I keep a knife Sharpener in my truck So do I really need this in my pack all The time probably not is it something I Could throw in my truck and keep it in My truck all the time yes I think so do I need this in my pack I don't think so I think I'm going to Subtract that Do we want to take an extra water filter
Hmm here's that multi-purpose cloth I Was talking about earlier Very absorbent material it's actually Mostly bamboo I believe bamboo and Cotton blend Pretty big cloth works great for a towel When drying off Something I like to do to make sure that I don't damage my filter from it Freezing is I'll just keep it dry for The most part unless I'm actively using It I'll get all the water at it out of it I'll take the thing apart Like That And then I'll just set it up on the Shelf to dry out and then I can store it Safely where it's not going to get Damaged If it freezes it's not going to Get moldy and stuff on the inside that Kind of stuff All right I think we are looking at Pretty much everything that I am going To bring with the exception of Additional food for sure I'm not just Bringing pumpkin pie as as nice as that Sounds Uh so exception of food and a bivvy bag I will also be bringing a small baby bag That will be probably about the size of This this sleep pad right there I think This is gonna be a winning combination I Will be more than comfortable I've even
Got luxury items such as hot hands right There just throwing the throw on the Foot of my sleeping bag at night Um I think this is going to be more than Enough to keep me cozy cozy warm at Night and light enough to where it won't Be a burden carrying it and this pack is So big it's I'll be able to fit because Chances are a couple of my kids are Going to be joining me if not all three Of my kids And chances are going to be carrying Some of their crap as well so they're Extra space in this pack is going to be Very very beneficial so I'm I mean what I've got here is only going to take up a Very small fraction of that bags tell me What you think about this in the Comments guys do you think this is going To be enough for me to be comfortable in Let's say below freezing temperatures Somewhere in the 20s at night and then Have to walk up to 20 miles the Following morning Since I removed the tourniquet out of This first aid kit I've got a little bit Of extra room in there and I think I'm Going to go ahead and stick the hot Hands in there and since I opted to not Bring an extra shirt an extra pair of Pants there's potential for me to damage My clothes I've torn my pants like Nearly in half before when I've been out And about so stuff happens and it's nice
To be able to patch them up and this is A sewing kit slash fishing kit that has Come in pretty dang handy a couple times And here's all the stuff that's not Staying in the pack we might go in the Truck but it's not going in the pack and I will not be carrying it on the hike so All this stuff here extra weight that's A lot of extra bulk right there A lot extra weight a lot extra bolt gone Hey guys thanks so much for watching I Really really do appreciate it make sure You're hitting the thumbs up and Subscribing if you haven't done so Already make sure you check out the Survival dispatch store the link will be In the description any support there Would be very very very much appreciated And I cannot wait to see you on the next Video [Music] Foreign
