[Music] Particular scope is a 5 to 25 Power Scope with a big old 34 millimeter tube A big 56 millimeter objective lens that Lets a lot of light in gives you a Really good bright sight picture it Actually has an illuminated reticle as Well and speaking of reticles if you can Use a scope or have a scope that has a BDC style reticle BDC stands for bullet Drop compensator and a lot of them have Windage hash marks as well so it allows You not only to adjust your windage and Elevation particularly when you know Your known distances and that some of Them actually will allow you to range Pretty accurately if you know the size Of your targets as well it's really Important to have good Rings good bases This is pretty cool these Rings even Tell you to torque them down to 20 inch Pounds which is really cool that's about Industry standard as it is Get a little technical here but if you Are if you know you're going to shoot Long range you need a rail that gives You extra MOA you might need to 30 MOA Rail or a rail that's actually angled Down a little bit so you think about if You're really going to throw lead way Down range Your uh your Barrel is going to be Pointed up right because that's going to Drop but your scope needs to see the
Target so this could be angled down so We'll get into a little bit more of that Later maybe in another video stabilize Your rifle how are you going to do that Well I've got a bipod here this one is I Think this is a Harris bipod you can Also use bags obviously you can Stabilize the fore end of your rifle uh On anything that's permanent and and Stable or if you're out in the woods on A tree limb or so so on we're actually On a shooting bench here out at the Range and we have a nice covered area Here to shoot so somewhat controlled Environment I've got a rear bag here I've got a special stock That allows me to do a lot of cool Things I can raise the the cheek weld up A little bit I I can extend the comb if I need to I can get my support hand Underneath or I can throw my bag Underneath and adjust my windage and Elevation by squeezing and letting off Of my bag or maybe I just want to use my Hand to do that if you're going to use Your hand to do that keep in mind you're Going to have a significant amount of Recoil with some rifles so you don't Want to don't want to hurt your hand Also you need to figure out if you're Going to shoot clamp down and stabilize Or if you're going to do a little bit More of a free recoil style shooting Again they're getting kind of technical
We'll get into that a little bit more Later quality ammunition today I'm Shooting Federal Gold Medal 175 match Grade ammo this is a one and 10 twist Barrel which is designed to stabilize Bullets of this size I've also had good Luck with 168s really likes the 175s and I currently have a really good Foundation zero at 100 yards of these Bullets so I'm shooting through the same Hole and so I have a good system here I Have good equipment good ammo and I'm Ready to send them All right so you need to get a Baseline And uh you know get your 100 yard zero Um if you have access to a chronograph Find out what your muzzle velocity is we Discovered that with this little stubby Barrel here it's a 16 inch barrel we're Getting about 2400 feet per second and with that Velocity and the ballistic coefficient Of the Federal Gold Medal 175s we use This app here it's called Geo ballistics And it tells us exactly how many Positions I have to dial for for a 300 Yard shot and so the geobolistic is Telling me to dial to 1.7 and that's Going to give me my elevation for 300 Yards it's that easy so let's dial it in And take a shot all right so we need 1.7 So there's one one two three four five Six and seven so that should be our Elevation for 300 yards all right so
We're dialed in for 300 yards and one Thing I want to mention is most Scopes Will have a parallax adjustment it's Basically usually it's a side dial Sometimes it's a dial up front here but That actually allows you to focus in on Your target at that particular distance And so I've adjusted my Parallax I've Clicked into 300 yards we're going to Take our first shot so I'm gonna got my Eyes and ears on obviously very Important got my Hunter's Gold eye Pro My custom molded years now what I'm Going to do is I'm going to squeeze this Bottom bag to make fine tuning Adjustments on my elevation and I'll put My center of my Crosshair the dot right In the center On my target at 300 yards gonna take the First shot So here we go All right I've got my impact on my Target It was a little bit to the right but That's to be expected because I'm Looking at the Mirage down there and I've got a lot of wind flowing from left To right so that kind of makes sense I don't really think I need to do any Fine tuning I'm going to send another round out and Uh See if I can duplicate my hit You'll notice I'm really not gripping
Really hard on my stock I'm not doing a Thumb wrap I'm just resting my thumb Comfortably and I'm letting my trigger Finger do all the work All right that time I had an impact Exactly where I aimed I think the wind let off a little bit So one more shot to verify And So far so good I love the sound That impact sound of the round on steel It's instant gratification my third Round hit I think probably within an Inch of my second round and So notwithstanding my first hit had Quite a bit of wind there I got two hits That are definitely sub him away at 300 Yards so we were successful at 300 we Checked our Geo ballistics app and we Dialed in for 600 so let's see if we can get hit on 600 yards a little more challenging Put my ear plug in All right see how good our ballistics Are 600 yards let's see if we can hear it Ring Yep Impact at 600. awesome All right so we just got our first hit At 600 I want to take another shot and Confirm and make sure that we're pulling Everything together taking into
Consideration the windage as well really A great opportunity for me to use this Particular reticle with the hash marks So I can hold off for the wind with this 25 Power Scope I can really see that Wind moving I can see that Mirage and That's really good feedback so let's try One more to confirm at 600 yards All right I hope you guys could hear that I could Hear my impact pretty impressive Considering I've got a 16 inch barrel Here this uh really isn't you know built For long long range but it just goes to Show just by using this technology and Information that's available to us even Just this information on the back of These boxes that tells you the ballistic Coefficient and the basic Elevation changes at different distances At least we'll get you started but Whatever you do go out there be safe Have fun Well you know I thought we were done but We're not done because we have 850 yards And I just can't quit until I at least Try an 850 yard shot so we plugged in The ballistics we made our adjustments And so yeah why not let's see if this Little 16 inch 308 can hit a Target at 8.50 Never know till you try That was a hit by the way what that was Ahead you serious
Holy cow good job Good in here good job Good job man good job So we came out here with the uh Intention of being able to shoot 300 Yards accurately and then that just Wasn't good enough so we pushed it to 600 and that was pretty awesome and then We thought well we have access to 850 so Why not try and see if we can hit 850 And we did so it just goes to show You're not going to know your Limitations of your abilities or your Equipment until you try it but do it the Smart way make sure you have that good Equipment some good Optics make sure Your rings are torqued down Appropriately make sure that your your Receiver is is bedded properly into your Rifle it's stable you have good ammo you Have good ballistics something to work With I never thought that my little 16 Inch barrel 308 would be able to hit a Target at 850 yards and it wasn't a huge Target it was a Gong about that big and For me that's quite an accomplishment so [Music]
